Well, if you don't already know, my computer has bitten the dust for the rest of the deployment and is already en route to my house in the states, so for now the online poker has been put on hold. However, there was a guy in my company that plays at a place just down the road every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Seems to be a pretty cool place, lots of nice people, though they DO allow smoking. Also, LOTS of people very willing to give their money away for fun. It gets pretty ridiculous sometimes, but I'm having fun.
The stakes are $1/$2 and in general people start with a $40 buy-in (which is pretty low for those stakes) but after they lose their original buy-in, they generally buy back for around $80, and if they lose that, they'll buy in for like $200! It's a pretty uncommon night (apparently) for the table to hold LESS than $3,000 on it at any given time.
Anyways, I did alright tonight, and hopefully from now on I'll be able to post my win/losses at this game. I brought $160 tonight, which is actually a little less than would be ideal, but for this game was enough for my purposes. I bought in with $40, and lost it pretty quick when my KK ran into 6-4 offsuit that hit a runner runner straight. Nice way to lose $40, cuz it means that people really don't know what they're doing... trust me, it's annoying in the short term, great for the pocketbooks in the longterm.
I then re-bought for $60 and played for a while, having my AA cracked twice in the 4 hours I was there, and JJ losing quite a bit. Winning hands included 3-4d hitting two pair, AJ hitting a Jack for middle pair, 44 catching trips, and 93o (o stands for 'offsuit) when everyone was acting incredibly weak preflop. Here are the stats for tonight:
Starting bankroll: $160
End of the night bankroll: $217
Plus or Minus for the night: +$57
Why such a small sum you ask? I WAS +$300 or more for the night, but one of my final hands was AA vs. someone's all-in of 44, he caught a 4 on the flop for trips, ending my night just barely up and sort of a big disappointment for me. It really seems like a free money game over here, I'm anxious to go again! I need to start working up a good bankroll of actual cash, and this game will be a good way to start it.
I gotta get outta here folks, please behave yourselves. Love you all,
-Trike
