Tonight I went to that same $1/$2 game, and I finally hit a few good hands! Twice in an un-raised pot as a BB I had 5-3o and flopped a straight, which didn't really pay me off TOO well, but it was still something that hadn't really happened at all the previous nights.
Anyways, I had started with an original $40, though I had $160 in my pocket in case I needed it. I had made some great laydowns and some great calls, and was up pretty well when the following hand came along:
I had 8-Td on the button in an unraised pot with about 6 callers. I limped and the two blinds called (8 people seeing the flop here is pretty regular). The flop came 8-6-2 with two diamonds. It was checked around to a guy that went all-in for $18, and I called, hoping to get a little more action with my reasonably strong hand. However, everyone folded until a guy that had previously checked and was next to the guy who had raised, thought for a while and then told me 'I'm gonna make you pay for the draw you're on' and went all-in for another $59. This was only a mild dilema for me, as I had seen his style of play and was fairly certain the BEST hand he could possibly have was 99 or JJ, as he would have bet with a set to get rid of the flush draws on the board (he plays weak hands weak and strong hand strong, in general). Anyways, I was getting about 2:1 on my money, and with 14 outs with two cards to come, I figured it put me in decent shape to win the pot and a lot of money. I'm still not sure if it was the right call percentage-wise, I'll have to find out soon, though due to the 'rule of 4' I was around a 56% favorite to win. Anyways, the conclusion was that I ended up NOT catching any of my diamonds or an 8 or 10, and lost a lot of money to his JJ. I soon afterward cashed out, having already given them a '30-minute warning'. Here are the stats for tonight:
$1/$2 NL Hold'em
Hours logged for the session: 4
Started the night with: $40
Ended the night with: $287
Plus or minus for the night: +$247
Overall cash bankroll: $537
Total plus or minus: +$377
Total hours played: 13
Total per hour average: +$29/hour
Well, if I could be entirely consistant making that sort of money, I really COULD live off of poker right now, though we'll see if I can continue to do this well. They want me to go play tomorrow so they can get their money back, I'll certainly oblige them, for about 4 hours anyways. Up til now, this game has been pretty good for me. Still, it'll be nice to get into the states and play there. Some good old fashioned $3/$6 limit sounds like fun, as does a few home-game $5 tournaments, haha. And then I'll also be able to play online. Good times. Peace out.
